COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR

Adventure Theatre MTC (ATMTC seeks a full-time Communications Director to develop and execute annual marketing and communications strategies and setting strategic marketing direction to support overall organizational goals. This is a great opportunity for a talented and ambitious leader to advance in the field of arts marketing.

The Communications Director develops and manages ATMTC’s communications and marketing programs, including public relations, media relations, electronic and print publications, web, social media, branding and patron services. The Communications Director is an integral member of ATMTC management team, working with the Producing Artistic Director, Managing Director and Senior Staff as well as Board of Directors and volunteers. The Communications Director reports to the Managing Director and supervises the Graphics Associate, Outbound Sales Associate and Patron Services Manager.

 

Responsibilities include but aren’t limited to:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive communications and marketing plans for Production and Academy programs to maximize attendance and revenue;

  • Develop and implement strategy to optimize digital marketing tools, including ATMTC website, e-marketing communications and social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, & Twitter);

  • Manage message development and implementation; synchronize messages for different audiences, including theater productions, Academy, development and organizational;

  • Oversee the creation, design, production and dissemination of all organizational print materials including direct mail pieces, postcards, posters, and programs;

  • Develop and execute ATMTC’s advertising plan, including the production, negotiation and placement;

  • Responsible for media relation development, serving as liaison to formal and informal media (Bloggers) and managing media lists;

  • Implement and manage publicity campaigns for all productions, programs, events and activities. This includes writing and distributing press releases, pitching and coordinating feature stories, coordinating and distributing photos and b-roll shots, coordinating press performances and tracking and disseminating media coverage;

  • Oversee sales and outreach efforts for productions, Academy programs and other earned income initiatives such as program advertising, facility rentals;

  • Oversee patron experience, including ticket buying, pre-show, front of house, and birthday parties;

  • Administer and coordinate a range of departmental activities:

  • Develop and maintain department’s budget;

  • Expense and record management for department;

  • Sales reporting and revenue forecasts;

  • Conduct and organize market and industry research;

  • Oversee maintenance of audience database; coordinate with Education staff to ensure proper maintenance of Academy database for marketing and communications purposes

 

Qualifications:

  • Record of achievement and growth in marketing in the arts or arts education;

  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills;

  • Superior written, verbal, and design communication skills;

  • Proficiency in digital media best practices;

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office Suite, email marketing platforms, ticketing database systems and website maintenance (HTML strongly preferred);

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize many demands and work to deadline;

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills as well as superlative attention to detail;

  • Entrepreneurial and enthusiastic attitude, as well as a love of theater, a must;

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in arts management, marketing or related field preferred.

 

Where the qualifications are described in terms of formal education or training, prior experience in a relevant field, as determined by the theatre, may be substituted.

OUTBOUND SALES ASSOCIATE

Adventure Theatre MTC (ATMTC), seeks an enthusiastic and goal-oriented Outbound Sales Associate to join its Communications Department. . The Outbound Sales Associate reports to the Communications Director. The Responsibilities include by are not limited to:

 

Group Sales:  

  • Process group ticket sales and contracts and serve as staff liaison and coordinator;

  • Conduct direct outreach and relationship building with teachers, school staff, PTAs, nursery schools and Day Cares, Scout troops, Church groups, etc.;

  • Coordinating and staffing evening and weekend outreach opportunities, including but not limited to school visits, community events, and info nights,;

  • Maintaining a current database of education and group contacts;

 

Academy Sales

  • Conduct direct outreach and relationship building with teachers, school staff, PTAs for the purpose of securing out-of-school Education and School Residency contracts, as directed by Education Director

Rental Sales: 

  • Process contracts and payments for facilities rentals (excluding birthday parties), oversee rental needs and coordinate with Registrar (WP) and Patron Services Manager (GE);

  • Manage relationships with existing rental clientele and actively secure new rental clientele to meet income goals;

  • Assist in developing ideas for promoting and growing facilities rental income that avoid conflict with mission-driven programs

  • Maintain rental calendar for both locations and attend bi-weekly scheduling meetings;

 

Ad Sales

  • Solicit new and renewing advertisements in Professional Production, Student Production and Special Event playbills;

  • Coordinate with Graphics Designer and client as to advertisement specs and deadlines;

  • Process contracts, invoices and payments.

 

Other Departmental Assistance

  • Assist communications department with the scheduling and distribution of promotional materials; and

  • Distribute weekend reports to the senior staff.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required;

  • Minimum of 1 year of sales or customer service experience, preferably in theater or arts-related field;

  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills;

  • Experience that highlights creativity, self-motivation, resourcefulness and initiative;

  • Demonstrated organization and time-management skills as well as attention to detail;

  • Experience with ticketing software and Microsoft Excel;

  • Passion for theater and a keen interest in communicating Adventure Theatre MTC’s many offerings; and

  • Availability and flexibility to work during operational hours, including occasional weekday evenings and weekends.

MUSIC DIRECTOR

Adventure Theatre MTC is seeking an experienced Music Director for our Pre- Professional Program. Now in it's 31st year, the Pre-Professional Program (previously called Student Ensembles) prepares committed and gifted musical theater students in grades 4-12 for college and/or a professional career.

Led by a highly qualified faculty, the Pre-Professional Program curriculum provides students with inclusive training in singing, dancing, acting, and performance. The Music Director works as an integral part of the Education team to develop students' vocal technique and prepare musical theater numbers to be performed in road shows and at the annual end-of-year showcase called Spotlight. This Music Director position generally requires Saturday availability (Noon-4 pm) from September to May. Please email for a more detailed calendar if interested.

Qualified candidates will have a bachelor's degree in music (minimum), a background in vocal pedagogy, music directing experience, and experience in working with young performers.

WEEKEND/EVENING FRONT DESK STAFF NEEDED:
Adventure Theatre MTC is looking for responsible, organized, and friendly individuals to join our part-time ATMTC Academy front desk staff. This position serves as a frontline resource for the Academy and provides quality service to all individuals including students, teachers, parents, rentals and guests. Scheduled hours would be on weekday evenings as well as Saturdays or Sundays in our Wintergreen Plaza, Rockville location. Duties include answering phones, greeting patrons in person, providing information about ATMTC programs upon request, assisting staff with administrative and promotional tasks as assigned, setting up/taking down rooms for rentals and performing closing duties of the Academy. BIRTHDAY PARTY HOSTS/HOSTESSES NEEDED:
ATMTC is looking for friendly people to work as birthday party hosts on Saturdays or Sundays. Responsibilities include setting up and cleaning up the birthday party room, greeting the parents and children, assisting the parents with the 1 hour birthday party, and escorting the party to and from the theatre. BIRTHDAY PARTY STAGE COMBAT/CHARACTER ACTORS NEEDED:
ATMTC is seeking qualified Stage Combat instructors, Dance instructors, and Princess Character Actors to lead one hour LightSaber Workshops, Dance Workshops, and Pretty Princess Birthday Parties. Parties are primarily scheduled on weekends during the day. HOUSE MANAGERS NEEDED:
ATMTC seeks house managers.  House Managers will make sure the lobby and theater are in proper order before the show begins, between shows, and at the end of the day.  The House Manager will communicate with the Box Office and Stage Manager to determine when to open the house, help patrons find a seat in the general admission theatre, and make sure rows are reserved for special parties.  During the show, they will work with the Box Office and the Stage Manager to coordinate late seating.  Dress code is business casual.
