Private Lessons

One-on-One training with expert instructors

PRIVATE VOICE LESSONS

Students will study the technical aspects of voice, geared toward the musical theatre genre, developing healthy skills they can use on and off the stage. Special attention and focus on breath support, resonance, placement, jaw and vowel work, and alignment, to expand and strengthen the vocal range. Students will also work on expression, artistry, and text exploration, working toward a sharing day performance for parents at the end of the semester. This course is guided by an age-appropriate curriculum taught by one of our qualified and gifted teaching artists. 
 
*Pre-requisite for this course is completing one semester of Class Voice at ATMTC or equivalent prior vocal training experience.

Matthew Dohm

Matthew Dohm serves as the Vocal Music Director & Conductor for musical theater productions at professional, amateur, and student institutions throughout DC/MD/VA. In addition to leading the Music Ministry at Hyattstown Christian Church, Matthew instructs choral arts, general music, vocal coaching, and theater in several educational organizations. Matthew is a Master’s of Vocal Pedagogy degree candidate at the Westminster Choir College, holds a Bachelor’s in Music from the University of Maryland School of Music, and has completed Vocal Music Education courses at both UMD and the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University. Matthew provides private lessons in Voice, Piano, Violin, and Guitar.

Rachel Hahn

Rachel Hahn is a classical opera singer who recently finished her master’s degree in opera performance from UCLA. She is glad to be back on the east coast where she has been teaching private voice lessons and working as Operations Coordinator and Box Office Manager for the Columbia Orchestra. One of Rachel's greatest passions in teaching is the opportunity to revisit her roots in musical theater! This summer, she’s looking forward to participating in the Vocal Pedagogy and Vocology Intensive at Oklahoma City University where she will work with esteemed faculty from her undergraduate studies at the Boston Conservatory. In 2022 Rachel was chosen as the Cafritz Young Artist intern with the Washington National Opera.

Cainan Grier

Cainan Grier (he/him) is a jazz vocalist, pianist, music director, and educator based in the DC metro area. Recently, he made his directorial debut with A Christmas Carol… More or Less, and served as music director for Little Shop of Horrors, where he also voiced Audrey II. An alumnus of Berklee College of Music in Boston, Cainan studied Klezmer, Yiddish, Flamenco, and various Latin styles, which shape his unique fusion of jazz, soul, and global influences. His creative theatrical credits include Assistant Music Director for Beauty and the Beast and The Addams Family at JCAT Miami, as well as sound design for The Miracle Worker, and Music Director for The Lightning Thief Jr. for ATMTC. Cainan is expanding his performance reach in the DMV, Philadelphia, and New York while preparing new music for 2025. He is thrilled to be joining the Adventure Theatre MTC family and looks forward to the exciting opportunities ahead!

Sylvern Grooms, Jr.

As an award-winning and nominated performing artist in the DMV area, Sylvern is thrilled and humbled to be making a home here at Adventure Theatre MTC. He has been seen on stages such as Toby’s Dinner Theatre, Olney Theatre Center, Adventure Theatre, Riverside Center for The Performing Arts, Roxy Regional Theatre, Imagination Stage and ArtsCentric. He has also traveled the country with productions from The Kennedy Center, Folger Theatre and Virginia Repertory Theatre. Groomes Jr has used his experiences and skills developed as a professional performing artist to smoothly transition into the educator world as a teaching artist, director, choreographer, and designer. Leading enrichment programs, glee clubs, choirs, private voice lessons, musical theatre productions and companies at dance studios has equipped Sylvern into being a qualified addition to ATMTC. Keep up with what is on the horizon for Sylvern.

Private Acting

Whether you want to strengthen your knowledge of how to build a character, work on audition material, or gain more experience analyzing materials and sharpening your technique, this class is for you. Our experienced faculty will create a plan for you to meet all of your goals in a private, safe space. Get ready to release your creativity and get invaluable feedback! This course is guided by an age-appropriate curriculum taught by one of our qualified and gifted teaching artists. 

Michael Replogle

Mr. Replogle’s film and television credits include NBC, ABC, Tri-star Pictures, Pipeline, and A. Shane Productions. Stage credits include regional theatres such as The Kennedy Center, Mill Mountain, The MacHaydn, Signature, Roundhouse, American Century, Keegan Theatre, The Source, Studio and two national tours. He has also narrated for over 35 recorded books and plays. Mr. Replogle has served as Co-Artistic and/or Program Director for theatres and programs in the Washington, D.C. area, most notably for Roundhouse Summer Teen Institute and Adventure Theatre. He is Founding Artistic Director for the City of Fairfax Theatre Company, which opened its first production in the summer of 2009. He has directed over 80 professional and community theatre productions in his career, won the area’s first WATCH Award in direction for Richard III, and directed the 2012 BroadwayWorldDC.com best musical, Legally Blonde. Mr. Replogle studied at HB Studio and Colliers in New York City, the University of Nevada/Reno, and the University of Virginia. He is the program originator and director of the Fairfax Academy’s Professional Musical Theatre & Actors Studio, the first of it's kind in the region, where he was nominated for several years before winning honors for Teacher of the Year in 2013-2014. In the last twenty years his students have attended the top performance colleges and universities across America, Great Britain and Europe. Many have gone on to Broadway, national tours, television and major film, others have become writers, recording artists, and producers. He retired from the Academy in Spring of 2020. He continues to work in the field he loves.

Lenox Kamara

Lenox Kamara (he/him) is an emphatic DCMetro theatre artist. With his West African roots, and embracing identity through queer, black, and pop culture, his artistry has always been rooted in cultivating community. As a director, Lenox guides actors of various skill levels to feel confident and curious on how to ignite characters and stories on stage. In each classroom and/or rehearsal space, every student will have the opportunity to sharpen their preparation, patience, personality, and positivity as a performer. By using holistic rehearsal practices, improvisational exercises, script analysis, while activating voice & movement, Lenox teaches acting with grit and grace. Adventure Theatre & ATMTC Credits: SMTTP 2023 Sessions II & III (Acting TA/Director), Jingle in July (Director), Q.Fest 4.0 (Director). Education: Bachelor’s in Theatre Studies; focus in Directing/Producing (Towson University) & Associate of Arts in Theatre Performance (Montgomery College)

Alie Karambash

Alie is an actor and director born and based in the DC area. Committed to activism, equity, and nurturing the human spirit through storytelling and education, Alie believes that theatre is an innate and powerful craft which we have inherited. Alie has performed at regional theatres such as Shakespeare Theatre Company, Theatre Alliance, Chesapeake Shakespeare Company, Compass Rose Theatre, Prologue Theatre, and Discovery Theatre. Alie holds a Master of Fine Arts in Classical Acting from George Washington University/Shakespeare Theatre Company and a Bachelors in Theatre Performance from the University of Maryland.
