Throughout the year, ATMTC Academy provides workshops for students and parents to help provide greater context and understanding around a college experience and/or career in the performing arts.
Check back regularly as our workshops get scheduled at various times throughout the year.
A good headshot is crucial and can set the tone for your audition before the casting team ever meets you face-to-face. We are also offering headshots for only a fraction of the price taken by a professional photographer. They will be able to capture a winning image of you to help build your confidence as you go through the audition process. We will send information on what you need to bring for this photo shoot after you are registered.
Need help with an important audition? This workshop covers all aspects of preparing and executing an effective audition for musical theatre. Coaching will include discussing the appropriate 32 and/or 16-bar cut for you, understanding your “type”, preparing your music, working with an accompanist, and monologuing the song. We will also discuss “call back” requirements, and helpful hints to land the role!
Students must bring the current audition cut they are using in the appropriate key.
ABOUT YOUR MUSICAL THEATRE WORKSHOP INSTRUCTOR:
Cainan Grier (he/him) is a jazz vocalist, pianist, music director, and educator based in the DC metro area. He is currently in rehearsal for Guy Jacobs in Blues for an Alabama Sky at Silver Spring Stage. Recently, he made his directorial debut with A Christmas Carol… More or Less and served as music director for Little Shop of Horrors, where he also voiced Audrey II.
An alumnus of Berklee College of Music, Cainan studied Klezmer, Yiddish, Flamenco, and various Latin styles, which shape his unique fusion of jazz, soul, and global influences. His creative theatrical credits include Assistant Music Director for Beauty and the Beast and The Addams Family at JCAT Miami, as well as sound design for The Miracle Worker.
In 2025, Cainan was the music director for the Summer Musical Theatre Training Program production of The Lightning Thief Jr. as well as Frozen. As the current musical director of Adventure Theatre MTC’s Pre-Professional Program, Cainan will be returning in 2026 to be the SMTTP music director for both Into The Woods Jr. and Legally Blonde Jr..
