Meet our Caring & Experienced Instructors

Adventure Theatre MTC (ATMTC) Academy’s instructors are some of the Washington, DC area’s most intuitive and experienced faculty for musical theatre instruction. 

Pre-professional Program

Lenox Kamara

Lenox Kamara (he/him) is an emphatic DCMetro theatre artist. With his West African roots, and embracing identity through queer, black, and pop culture, his artistry has always been rooted in cultivating community. As a director, Lenox guides actors of various skill levels to feel confident and curious on how to ignite characters and stories on stage. In each classroom and/or rehearsal space, every student will have the opportunity to sharpen their preparation, patience, personality, and positivity as a performer. By using holistic rehearsal practices, improvisational exercises, script analysis, while activating voice & movement, Lenox teaches acting with grit and grace. Adventure Theatre & ATMTC Credits: SMTTP 2023 Sessions II & III (Acting TA/Director), Jingle in July (Director), Q.Fest 4.0 (Director). Education: Bachelor’s in Theatre Studies; focus in Directing/Producing (Towson University) & Associate of Arts in Theatre Performance (Montgomery College).

Laurie Newton

Laurie is a passionate director, choreographer, and teacher with over 25 years of experience in musical theatre and dance. She earned a Master of Arts in Dance from American University, where she premiered her original dance musical, "Turning Pointes," and a Bachelor’s degree in Integrative Arts (Dance, Theatre, Music) from Penn State. Laurie has directed numerous musicals for both children and adults in the D.C. area and has served as a show choir director, and choreographer for a collegiate musical theatre troupe. She has collaborated with Tony-nominated directors on productions like “Battlecry” and has received national recognition for her choreography in jazz and musical theatre. Laurie taught on the Dance faculty at Montgomery College for a decade, choreographing for their dance company and Summer Dinner Theatre. She has previously taught at ATMTC, Imagination Stage, Bravo, and Winters Lane, sharing her love for performing arts and nurturing talent in the D.C. area.

CAINAN GRIER

Cainan Grier (he/him) is a jazz vocalist, pianist, music director, and educator based in the DC metro area. Recently, he made his directorial debut with A Christmas Carol… More or Less, and served as music director for Little Shop of Horrors, where he also voiced Audrey II. An alumnus of Berklee College of Music in Boston, Cainan studied Klezmer, Yiddish, Flamenco, and various Latin styles, which shape his unique fusion of jazz, soul, and global influences. His creative theatrical credits include Assistant Music Director for Beauty and the Beast and The Addams Family at JCAT Miami, as well as sound design for The Miracle Worker, and Music Director for The Lightning Thief Jr. for ATMTC. Cainan is expanding his performance reach in the DMV, Philadelphia, and New York while preparing new music for 2025. He is thrilled to be joining the Adventure Theatre MTC family and looks forward to the exciting opportunities ahead!

TOBI BAISBURD


Tobi is so excited to be a teaching artist with ATMTC. Almost 20 years ago she began her theatrical journey as a student at MTC, and is elated to be back now as both an actor and educator. As an educator, it is her mission to not only instill a love of theatre in the next generation of actors, but also encourage them to discover their own voice and confidence. ATMTC performance credits include, Ken Ludwig’s Twas the Night Before Christmas and Dragons Love Tacos. Previous DC credits include Ragtime (Signature Theatre) and November 4th (reading with VFP). She received her BFA in Musical Theatre from the University of Miami.

KURT BOEHM


Boehm joins Adventure Theatre MTC after two decades of experience as an award-winning Director, Choreographer, Teacher, and Actor. Across the DMV, he has worked as an educator at The Catholic University of America, Montgomery College Summer Dinner Theatre, George Mason University, Toby's Dinner Theatre, Columbia Center for Theatrical Arts, Kids In Dramatic Study, Centennial High School, Alice Deal Middle School, and ATMTC. Boehm has also Directed & Choreographed for The Keegan Theatre, Imagination Stage, The Mac-Haydn Theatre in New York, Washington Savoyards, Toby's Dinner Theatre, and ATMTC. As a Helen Hayes nominated Actor, his work has expanded to Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, The Broad Stage in LA, ArtsEmerson in Boston, and at home in the DMV. You have seen his work on our stages at The Kennedy Center, Arena Stage, Ford's Theatre, Shakespeare Theatre Company, Signature Theatre, Olney Theatre Center, Imagination Stage, The Keegan Theatre, Toby's Dinner Theatre, & Monumental Theatre Company. Boehm earned his Bachelors of Music from The Catholic University of America and is a proud member of Actors' Equity Association.

John-Michael d’Haviland


An award-winning music director whose work spans musical theatre, concert performance, and music education, John-Michael is thrilled to join Adventure Theatre MTC! Known for musical integrity, stylistic fluency, and a collaborative rehearsal process, John-Michael possesses a deep commitment to supporting and helping students, artists, and performers find confidence, clarity, and joy in their work. His regional theatre credits include — Cabaret (The Keegan Theatre/DC), Mirandy and Brother Wind (Synchronicity Theatre/GA), Once On This Island (Atlanta Lyric Theatre/GA), Caroline, or Change, Next to Normal, John/Jen, A New Brain, (Jennie T. Anderson Overture Series/GA), A Strange Loop (Actor's Express/GA). John-Michael has a BA in Music, MA in Music (Conducting) from George Mason University.

RAY ingram


Ray (he/him) is a theatre professional as well as a student of theatre who's had a long history of performances, as well as a deep connection to Adventure Theatre. He is currently enrolled at Bowie State University, pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Theatre Arts while also being on the program executive board. He was previously enrolled at ATMTC Academy as a student and has been working for the company for the last 3 years as a Director/Choreographer. While he constantly works on being a playwright and a director, he wishes to aspire his students to Carpe Diem/Seize the day!

Alie Karambash


Alie is an actor and director born and based in the DC area. Committed to activism, equity, and nurturing the human spirit through storytelling and education, Alie believes that theatre is an innate and powerful craft which we have inherited. Alie has performed at regional theatres such as Shakespeare Theatre Company, Theatre Alliance, Chesapeake Shakespeare Company, Compass Rose Theatre, Prologue Theatre, and Discovery Theatre. Alie holds a Master of Fine Arts in Classical Acting from George Washington University/Shakespeare Theatre Company and a Bachelors in Theatre Performance from the University of Maryland. Megan Kempton


Megan is a DC-based teaching artist, actor, director, and choreographer. She graduated from American University with a BA in Musical Theatre and Communication Studies. From the time she was a student herself, Megan found that she had a passion for theatre education and bringing the inner artist of every child out. She believes in play, collaboration, and finding a safe space within the arts. In the DMV, she has worked with theaters including Workhouse Performing Arts Center, Folger, The National Theatre, Imagination Stage, and choreographs professionally for American University.

Perry Medlin


Perry Medlin DIRECTING /CHOREO: Live Arts - Pippin (Live Arts), Follies (choreographer), The Legend of Georgia McBride, High School Musical Jr., Violet. Michael Replogle



Mr. Replogle’s film and television credits include NBC, ABC, Tri-star Pictures, Pipeline, and A. Shane Productions. Stage credits include regional theatres such as The Kennedy Center, Mill Mountain, The MacHaydn, Signature, Roundhouse, American Century, Keegan Theatre, The Source, Studio and two national tours. He has also narrated for over 35 recorded books and plays.

Mr. Replogle has served as Co-Artistic and/or Program Director for theatres and programs in the Washington, D.C. area, most notably for Roundhouse Summer Teen Institute and Adventure Theatre.

He is Founding Artistic Director for the City of Fairfax Theatre Company, which opened its first production in the summer of 2009. He has directed over 80 professional and community theatre productions in his career, won the area’s first WATCH Award in direction for Richard III, and directed the 2012 BroadwayWorldDC.com best musical, Legally Blonde. Mr. Replogle studied at HB Studio and Colliers in New York City, the University of Nevada/Reno, and the University of Virginia.

He is the program originator and director of the Fairfax Academy’s Professional Musical Theatre & Actors Studio, the first of it's kind in the region, where he was nominated for several years before winning honors for Teacher of the Year in 2013-2014. In the last twenty years his students have attended the top performance colleges and universities across America, Great Britain and Europe. Many have gone on to Broadway, national tours, television and major film, others have become writers, recording artists, and producers. He retired from the Academy in Spring of 2020. He continues to work in the field he loves.

Bryan Stopak


Bryan Stopak (he/him) is a multi-talented artist based in DC. His creative journey has taken him from the vibrant arts scene of New York City to the artistic hub of Philadelphia, where he earned his BFA in Directing from The University of The Arts. With a diverse skill set as a Choreographer, Designer, Director, Playwright, and Performer, Bryan has left his mark on the regional theater scene. Bryan was also a featured choreographer in the Capital Fringe Festival for “LIFE! A comedic opera in three acts.” Bryan's creative influence extends to the educational realm, as he has worked with numerous MCPS schools as a Choreographer, Designer, and Director. Currently, Bryan is channeling his dedication as a Pom coach at Magruder High School.

Rooster Sultan


Rooster Sultan (she/her) is a prop designer/artisan, technical theatre educator, and director in the DC metro area. She recently assistant directed The Trojan Women (staged reading) and POTUS at Montgomery College. Some of her recent prop design credits include: Dance Nation (American University) Tuck Everlasting (Imagination Stage- performamce ensemble) Mojada; The Visit; A New Brain; The Amateurs; The 25th Annual . . . Spelling Bee; Men on Boats; Dontrell Who Kissed the Sea; The Nether (Montgomery College) Human Museum; Sometimes the Rain, Sometimes the Sea; Chemical Exile: Synthesis (Rorschach Theatre) Possumneck Playhouse . . .; Blackwell Island; The Pursued . . . and The Tired (Signature in the Schools) Quilters; The Rainmaker (1st Stage) Rooster recieved her BFA from the University of North Georgia and is a member of USITT – Chesapeake Region.

Melissa Wilson


Melissa Wilson (she/her) is a recent graduate of Eastern Washington University's Musical Theatre Program. This will be her first time working with Adventure Theatre and she is thrilled at this new opportunity. Since moving to Maryland just a few months ago, she has jumped into the local theatre scene, taking part in classes, leading drama clubs at local schools, and acting in Food for the Gods (Khunum Productions).

Kamri Johnson


Kamri Johnson (She/Her) is a 24 year old graduated senior at Bowie State University. She majored in Theatre Arts with a concentration in Dance and Movement Studies. She started dancing 10 years now and then branched off to join dance companies in the DMV area. She have had a long career of lead roles, dancing, singing and acting in a plethora of musicals and plays. Ms. Johnson's love for theatre has pushed her to have so many opportunities handed to her and she thanks God everyday for the gifts that has given her to share with the world.
